August on the prairie
With a string of pups and derbies
A couple green mounts to concur
A lad to help a little
No body close to bug you
Your creditors behind
A lake to fish on Sunday
A bar not far to hit if rainy
Too hot a few days
Too windy several days more
But then a little stretch ideal
When the spear grass falls away
And for a few long precious days
That last around a mid day nap
Miracles happen with a derby
And you know why you are here
Yes it’s August on the prairie
And like dog men for a century
You are here in search of magic
With young bird dogs and green horses
Everything you put your pen to is outstanding! Never quit!
